Middle School Retreat!

During Martin Luther King Jr. day weekend in January our TLC 6th, 7th, and 8th graders were brought together, along with students from Swan's Island, for the 11th annual Middle School Retreat hosted by the utterly fabulous Sea Coast Mission.

We had a little over 20 students together for a weekend of team building activities and challenges along with  some fun and memorable adventures.

The Middle School Retreat (or MSR as our island students lovingly refer to it) is something that TLC students look forward to every year. It is such a great opportunity for them to get some "big kid time" with other middle school students.

When you go to a one-room school, being a middle school student means you are automatically a leader in the classroom. You are a role model for the younger students and you are given more expectation and responsibilities. MSR gives our older students an opportunity to challenge themselves as leaders and team players with students who can relate to their school life in a way that not all students can.

One of the highlights of the weekend was heading to the local toboggan chute where students got to really experience a challenge by choice adventure! Other highlights included bowling, rock climbing, swimming, drama games, and a service project at the local homeless center.

After our jam-packed 36 hours together we were exhausted and inspired!

Thank you Sea Coast Mission for another fabulous MSR! We will see you all next year!
