Virtual Field Trip - Welcome to Africa!

What is the next best thing if you can't take a real field trip to Africa!? A virtual trip to Africa, OF COURSE!!

During our second trimester social studies unit focusing on Africa the TLC had the opportunity to participate in a "virtual field trip" that was scheduled through the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaborative

CILC is a really cool website where schools can sign up for "virtual field trips," many of which are free, that are offered by different universities, museums, and other educational institutions with amazing resources.

The programs are presented via our video conferencing unit which is great because all of our TLC schools can participate. This program, "Welcome to Africa" was presented by a Graduate Student of African Studies at the University of Indiana!

In the program our TLC students received a brief overview of African geography.

Students got to ask questions and be interactive throughout the presentation which is always so valuable when trying to engage students in learning. Way better than just watching a movie!

We talked about African animals, landscape, climate, and culture and even got a chance to practice a little Swahili!

It was a fun and informative trip that we got to take without leaving our own schoolhouses. Awesome!
