Halloween and Social Studies Share-Out!

Often our fall field trip has fallen right around Halloween, which means we like to share our costumes when we get together face-to-face. This year, however, our field trip was scheduled for mid-November, so we would have to celebrate Halloween festivities virtually!
Millie, the TLC mascot, was ready to show-off her cowgirl costume to all of her TLC buddies! She just needed her mom to connect online...
And here we go! There was a T-Rex, an old lady, a minion, and one scary looking teacher at the Cliff Island School on this particular Halloween morning!
And although that may look like a costume, that is a REAL baby bump! We cannot wait to welcome our newest TLC baby!
The students on Isle au Haut showed off their Halloween outfits... there was a fisherman, a pirate, an owl, a policeman, and some other crazy-scary creatures.
After students got the chance to give a little costume fashion show, it was time for our social studies share-out! All of the TLC students took part in a social studies postcard exchange early in the fall that tied into the "Island History" unit that schools were focusing on for trimester one, social studies.
Students were matched up with a “mystery” TLC student from another island and were asked to write and illustrate a postcard to their partner with at least THREE clues about the island they live on. The clues had to do with the islands geography, economics, and/or history. Students then drew a picture on the front on the postcard that corresponded with the information they wrote. The postcards were sent out to all the island students and now it was time to guess WHO sent WHO each of the postcards!
Students took turns sharing some of the clues they received on their postcards and then guessed which island they believed their postcard was sent from. It was cool to learn some new facts about one another's islands and it is always fun to get some snail-mail from a TLC friend!
