Layers of the Earth

January 2012

Alright, so we left off blogging in.... let's see... DECEMBER! So we have a LOT to catch up on...

When we all got back from Christmas break it was time jump into our next inter-island science unit: GEOLOGY!!! Our plan was that every week a new school would take on teaching the rest of the TLC  about a specific topic within our study of geology! The "host" school would lead us in a mini-lesson/presenation via the video conferencing unit so the rest of the kids could learn about a new topic, ask questions, and practiced what they learned!

Everyone is always excited to see their classmates on the big screen!

Cliff Island started off the unit by teaching us all about the different layers of the Earth! Mr. H had the group draw a picture of what they THOUGHT the inside of the earth looked liked.

Everyone got right to work making their scientific guesses of what they thought the inside of the earth looked like.

This 8th grader's earth was looking pretty good... but some others had more creative ideas (like that the center of the earth was filled with ICE CREAM!)

After everyone had sometime to make their guesses it was time for the Cliff School to give a fantastic presentation about the layers of the Earth! Even when you think you know all about a certain topic, there is always SO much more to learn!

The final slide of Cliff's AWESOME presentation! Week one of science class as the TLC was a total success!
